Tamer Institute for Community Education was awarded the First Medchild Award for Best Practice for the category of Education and Culture. The award is of the value €25.000.

It is the first time that this award is launched and it is an award for the promotion of children rights and their development. Tamer Institute was chosen in respect for the innovative and persistent work that Tamer has been implementing for more than 16 years in community Education and reading promotion amongst children and youth and in appreciation of its special publications and activities in Children’s Literature as well.

The MedChild Award is designed to promote cooperation between all the major operators in the sector, which will benefit from mutual contact.

The Award is also designed to give suitable visibility and broader circulation to important results of proven sustainability obtained throughout the Mediterranean area in an effort to increase the well-being of children.

The four sections of the first MedChild Award for Best Practices in the Mediterranean region were thus identified within the following area of operation:

• Education and Culture

• Early Child Development

• Health

• Urban Setting

The awards will be given at the formal ceremony will take place in Dubai during the "Urban Children and Youth in the MENA Region - Addressing Priorities in Education" at a gala dinner on the evening of the 17th of May 2005

Medchild –the award granting organization- is based in Genoa and acts within the Mediterranean area with the mission to promote and pursue full respect for children’s rights in accordance with the person-oriented approach of the Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) to grow as human beings in conditions conducive to their physical and mental health, safety, positive contribution in the relational spheres in which they are involved, protection against impediments of an economic or social character, development of human potential, to grow up in a better world in terms of education, social aspects and health regardless of political and religious convictions
